The ground is changing in the automotive world with electrification gaining as never before. Nearly every manufacturer or brand is heavily invested in all things electric, with new models rolling out at a stepped-up pace. Infiniti has experimented with hybrids, but will soon offer several full-electric models. Meanwhile, its full-size QX80 unabashedly remains a traditional, gas-powered luxury utility vehicle, serving a niche segment that remains as popular as ever. The Second-Generation Infiniti QXThe Infiniti QX80 is by no means a new model. Introduced in 2011 as the QX56, the model transitioned to the QX80 beginning in 2014. Since then, Infinitiâs flagship received refreshes in 2015 and 2018, but the overall theme remains the same. Following its latest refresh, the QX80 received expanded driver-assist technology in 2019 and an upgraded infotainment system in 2019. The latter also brought in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In 2021, the QX80 had its trim line overhauled. Furthermore, adaptive cruise control became standard. For 2022, the QX80 features a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, replacing the previous stacked screens. Other changes include new climate control switches, wireless charging, and upgraded apps. Wireless Apple CarPlay is new although Android Auto requires a cord. Infiniti offers the 2022 QX80 in Luxe ($70,600), Premium Select ($75,385), and Sensory ($82,235) trims. All trims feature standard rear-wheel drive or for an additional $3,100, all-wheel drive. The QX80 seats seven or eight with an available middle-row bench seat option. Highlights of the 2022 Infiniti QX80Exterior HighlightsThrough the years, the QX80 has gradually changed, adopting a more refined and unified look from bumper to bumper. It wasnât that the earlier models were a mish-mash of design elements, rather they did not flow as well. Todayâs model seems cleaner, yet elegant and imposing. Bigness and large SUVs go hand in hand, not just with the canvas, but in various elements including the grille, running boards, and fender flares. Like its competitors, the QX80 strikes a balance between muscular and sophistication, essentially a requirement for the segment. Among the list of standard features are LED automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED taillights. The base model rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, while the other trims feature various 22-inch alloy wheel designs. Power-folding and heated side mirrors, roof rails, and a power liftgate come standard. A power moonroof is also included. Interior HighlightsThe QX80âs cabin is designed to hold seven with bucket seats in the first row, captainâs chairs in the second row, and a bench seat in the third row. Optionally, customers may swap out the captainâs chairs for a bench seat. We only recommend doing this if the eighth position is a requirement as the middle row thrones are very comfortable. Overall, the interior room is spacious, quite comfortable, and quiet. A curvy dashboard and thick padding nearly everywhere comforts and cossets passengers. The color schemes, though, are somewhat predictable. The QX80 lacks the âwowâ factor of certain competitors, including the BMW 7 Series and the Lincoln Navigator Black Label line. Third-row access is straightforward as the second-row seats slide and tilt forward. If you are an average-sized adult, the last row may be doable. For tall people, the quarters are tight, especially with the legroom. As for cargo space, the QX80 has just 16.6 cubic feet behind the third row. But it gets progressively better as you drop each seat down. Indeed, there is 49.6 cubic feet behind the second row and a robust 95.1 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats folded. Consequently, the QX80 is suitable for holding a full contingent of yard sale or home improvement store finds. Robust Safety FeaturesSafety scores are incomplete with the QX80. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives this SUV a four-star rating. It earns five stars for side crashes but just three starts for front crash and rollover tests. On the other hand, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not tested the QX80 and we do not think they will. The list of standard driver-assist safety features is impressive. All trims come with blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and lane-departure warning. Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking are included. The remaining features include automatic high-beam headlights, rear seat alert, and adaptive cruise control. The lone available feature is the adaptive pivoting headlights. Technology OverviewThe new 12.3-inch touchscreen display this year is a welcome change. It replaces a pair of stacked screens that some found confusing or clunky. Regardless, Infiniti gives us a touchscreen presentation we can live with. It features a bright display with easy-to-decipher controls. Yes, it has been a long time coming and we are glad that it is here. Among the standard tech items is a 13-speaker Bose audio system with HD Radio and satellite radio. Other features involve Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and connected Android Auto. A Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB ports, and navigation are included. Move up to the range-topping Sensory trim and this one brings in a 17-speaker Bose audio system. A rear seat entertainment system with a pair of 8-inch screens rounds out the offering. Competitive SetThe full-size luxury SUV segment includes players from Asia, America, and Europe. It is a niche market with 10,000 units or more sold annually the base. Still, models such as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator perform quite well. From Asia, the Lexus LX is the Infinitiâs chief competitor. The LX is also all-new for 2022. The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi Q7 are other three-row SUVs to consider. Coming in smaller, but with three rows is the Volvo XC90. Also to consider is the Land Rover Range Rover. Drive ImpressionsUnder the hood of every Infiniti QX80 is a 5.6-liter V6 engine with 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. More modern powerplants are powering competing models, but the V8 here is no sluggard. Power routes to the wheels utilizing a 7-speed automatic transmission. If you are a fan of V8 power, Infinitiâs engine does not disappoint. It is strong, capable, and confidence inspiring. In other words, it gets the job done with no lack of power at any point. Likewise, if you need to tow, the QX80 is rated to pull up to 8,500 pounds. The trade-off for the power is poor fuel economy. We think you will average no better than 15 mpg under a full load or slightly better when riding alone. Unlike some competitors, there is no diesel or hybrid option to ease the burden. Still, we canât complain by how well the QX80 rides. Direct steering and fair handling for a large SUV are among its hallmarks. The truck-based chassis works in the QX80âs favor, especially when going off-road. We donât recommend vigorous rock climbing given this vehicleâs size and pretty trim pieces, but it can handle everything else with ease. This includes fording rivers and pushing through mud piles. Parting ThoughtsThe 2022 Infiniti QX80 brings in the features needed to keep it competitive in the segment. Its age, though, is apparent and may cause some to flee to the competition. But if price is a concern, the Infiniti seems to have everyone else beat. Indeed, a well-equipped model can be had for under $80,000 and thatâs about $10,000 less than some competitors. Again, the trade-off is an older design, aged powertrain combination, and a lack of a customized interior along the lines of Lincolnâs Black Label. With this in mind, we are more likely to compare the Infiniti QX80 with the GMC Yukon Denali, a premium model that matches the Infiniti on price. The Sportage is Kiaâs longest-running nameplate, a compact crossover sport utility vehicle. It is also one of the brandâs most popular models, arriving stateside for the 1995 model year. This small vehicle seats five, comes with standard front-wheel drive, and offers available all-wheel drive. It is also one of the most tech- and safety-laden vehicles in its class. Just one note: Kia calls the Sportage a subcompact model in its press release. We believe this is a mistake as the company enlarged it in recent years to battle other compacts. These include the Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan, Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Equinox, and the Nissan Rogue. Kia does sell a subcompact model, the Seltos. Moreover, the Kia Soul sits somewhere in that range. Highlights of the 2023 SportageThere is much to explore about the all-new Sportage. First, the vehicle goes on sale in the first quarter of 2022. Second, new trims and electrified versions will follow. Most trims are built at the companyâs West Point, Georgia, facility with the rest imported from South Korea. Fresh Design, Expanded Trims, and the First ElectricsOpposites United. Kiaâs design philosophy is known as âopposites united.â This means the automaker is âtaking the idea of opposition and using it to evolve the identity of Kia.â Specifically, the Sportage heads in a new design direction, including a wider âTiger Noseâ grille and boomerang-shaped running lights. Design cues from the all-electric EV6 are also apparent. In all, the latest look is a clear departure from the previous look. The 2023 Sportage measures slightly larger than before putting it within the thick of things in its competitive segment. For 2023, the Sportage gains all-new X-Line and X-Pro trims. These pair come with an added 1.5-inch clearance on AWD models along with rugged tires and enhanced off-road capabilities. The two new models join the LX, EX, SX, SX-Prestige in filling out the Sportageâs gas-powered model line. But Kia likely isnât done as a GT-Line may follow. First electric models. Electrification is taking hold with Kia, with the Niro EV its current model. However, the Soul EV is no more. Beginning in 2022, the Kia EV6 joins the lineup, a model poised to tackle the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Volkswagen ID.4. We know that electrified Sportage models are on the way too. This means hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are on the way. Upgraded Tech and Safety FeaturesThe 2023 Sportage gains its first-ever Wi-Fi hotspot, suitable for connecting as many as five devices. Its available navigation system offers available on-the-fly updates for real-time changes. As before smartphone integration is possible through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 12.3-inch touchscreen display anchors the infotainment system. Importantly, a new touchpad joins with voice and touch to expand the systemâs accessibility. The new screen is matched by a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Combined, the two screens give the Sportage an unusual and upmarket look. On the safety front, the 2023 Sportage comes with eight standard driver-assist tech features. These include a 360° surround view monitor with 3D View and a live-feed blind-spot view monitor set within the instrument cluster. Automatic headlights, lane control, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection comes standard. Under the Hood, Larger SizeThe Sportageâs powertrain offerings begin with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower. It replaces the previous 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower. The new engine works with an 8-speed automatic transmission to send power to the wheels. Kia estimates an 8 percent improvement in fuel economy. This means fuel economy would increase from 26 mpg to 28 mpg for the base engine. The Sportageâs other powertrain announcements have yet to be qualified, although we know electrified models will follow. In any case, we expect the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will return as an option or standard on some trims. This one currently earns a robust 240 horsepower. Besides the larger engine, the Sportage itself gains size as well. The new model measures 3.4 inches longer between the wheels and is 7.1 inches longer overall. Kia also claims the new model is a half-inch taller and wider than the fourth-generation Sportage. Other changes include expanded rear-seat legroom. Specifically, 41.3 inches is of legroom makes this model the roomiest in its class. Moreover, the standard cargo space now measures 39.6 cubic feet. The All-New 2023 SportageWith the Seltos beneath the Sportage and the Sorento and Telluride following, Kia has a strong cohort of utility vehicles for customer consideration. Besides seeking an important styling edge, Kia hopes that its price point and strong warranty plans will continue to make a difference for customers. We also think that electrifying the Sportage makes sense. Eventually, Kia will transition to fully electric vehicles. Meanwhile, various hybrid offerings can help customers begin a move that may eventually result in their first all-electric vehicle. Kia Introduces the Fifth-Generation 2023 Sportage published first on https://medium.com/@JacobsLowPriceAutoGlass via Tumblr Kia Introduces the Fifth-Generation 2023 Sportage Italy cultivated the rest of the world with their pristine taste, introducing us to Italian food; car brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Lancia; batteries, and more. To top off, roads are also a bit of their specialty, seeing how well-positioned Italy is from a geographical point of view. The Famed Stelvio PassProbably one of the greatest and renowned driving roads in the world, the Stelvio Pass, amasses all its fame for great reason. It is Europeâs second-highest vehicle pass, sitting at a staggering 9,048-foot elevation. This makes the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan or Transalpina sitting at around 7,000 ft look like beach cruises. Even if Italy is populated and quite dense, some roads are mainly barren making you feel as if you are at the end of the world. Such a road is the Fonte Cerreto â Campo Imperatore, however, not even close to the Dalton Highway as a general feel, but this is not the road we are talking about. (1) Each road has a purpose, and similar to the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan, the Stelvio Pass has many things going for it. And both from an economical point of view and a military one. Lombardy RegionIt was built in the 1820s to connect Lombardy, or more precisely Milan, to the rest of the Austrian Empire. Back then, Lombardy was a lawful region of the Austrian Empire, even if Lombardy was very much Italian. Milan was a large and important city even back then, so linking it to the rest of the Austrian Empire was paramount to the regionâs whole development. The pass also was a strategic place of interest, because, before World War I, the border between the Italian Kingdom and the Austro-Hungarian Empire was the Stelvio Pass. Nowadays, it lost nearly all of its military interest, the only border which is relatively close being the Swiss one. However, Switzerland is known for being a paragon of neutrality in any conflict, and as such the Stelvio Pass remained a geographical border if you wish. (2) Currently, the Stelvio Pass is of great interest to Italy and the whole world for that matter. The 31-mile long pass is a significant point of interest for anything tourism and sports-related. It crosses the Alps, one of the truly beautiful mountains in all of Europe, attracting all kinds of people both in the summer and winter. The Stelvio National Park also crosses the pass, home to a variety of local fauna such as the chamois or the Apennine Wolf. Giro dâItaliaFrom a sports point of view, the Stelvio Pass is a significant attraction for cyclists and motorcyclists alike. Many people try their luck and strain their guts climbing one of the tallest bits of road in the whole of Europe, which when coupled to the roadâs immense difficulty makes for substantial bragging rights. Due to its challenge, the Giro dâItalia, also known as the Tour of Italy, took great interest in the Stelvio Pass, usually making its appearance as a route in the Giro. Cycling is so important for the pass, that on the last Saturday of August or on the first Saturday of September, the local authorities close the road for automotive usage, only allowing cyclists on the pass. This is known as Stelvio Bike Day, and it usually amasses a crowd of over 10,000 people. Driving on the Stelvio Pass is breathtaking. Going across the 48 hairpins slow and methodically is possible thanks to the narrow road protected by modest stone barriers. While slowly ascending, youâre surrounded by trees and the Alps offering a view that is, simply put, gorgeous. There are plenty of tiny gaps between the trees which greet you with snowy mountain tops seemingly coated in glaze. The road is quite steep, with an average slope of 7.1-percent, reaching as high as 12-percent. A puny Fiat 500 will breathe its lungs out quite a bit after climbing such slopes for tens of miles all while experiencing an elevation increase of 4,900 feet. (3) Driving the Stelvio PassDriving on the pass makes you wonder how could they even do something like this back in the 1820s, and develop it so well that the layout remained, for the greatest part, unchanged. You will wonder how the villages on the mountain peak are equipped with supplies, anything bigger than a compact sedan seemingly appearing to block the entire road. Every turn feels substantial as if the worldâs burden got ever so slightly lighter after the wheel straightened out and you are back on the accelerator. Each hairpin is quite tight, with no room to take them wide unless you want to join the club of people who crashed at altitudes of 8,500 feet. However, stepping on the throttle between hairpins is doable, with the caveat that you slow down in time. Otherwise, you will hit a railing, fly off the mountain, or hit someone else. This whole process seems similar to a dance, a beautiful choreography where you, your car, and the pass have to be in sync. Remember, you are not in control. The Stelvio Pass is. TransfÄgÄrÄÈan ComparisonOn the other hand, the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan in Romania is a whole different kind of road. You could consider the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan more in the same way as a rough afterparty of a rock concertâs grand finale. You could either enjoy the gathering casually and bathe in the experience with a light drink while discussing the concertâs fireworks, or you could pass out in the bathroom while mistaking the musicâs bassline for your heartbeat, wondering if your time has finally come. In all, Romaniaâs premier roadway delivers a more brutal experience when compared to Stelvioâs Pass pristine Italian refinement. (4) References(1) Motorcycle Diaries. All About the Stelvio Pass published first on https://medium.com/@JacobsLowPriceAutoGlass via Tumblr All About the Stelvio Pass The eighth-generation (C8) Chevrolet Corvette represents a sea change for this sports car. As the first mid-engine design, the current iteration simply elevates the name. Indeed, when the 2020 Corvette Stingray made its debut, it was quickly recognized as one of the most powerful as well as the best-handling version to date. Thatâs incredible for a standard model. The Next ChapterYesterday, GM rolled out the next version of the C8, the Z06 (pronounced zee-oh-six). It will be nearly three years between models when the Z06 arrives in Summer 2022 and thatâs uncommonly long. Yet, the wait will result in the most powerful naturally aspirated Corvette to dateâ¦our heads remain intoxicated from the news! We wonât diminish the Z06âs pending release by ignoring it completely, but chatter about subsequent models simply will not ease. Thatâs understandable because the Corvette name is synonymous with the American sports car. Indeed, the Corvette remains the only true sports car from a domestic manufacturer, at least one thatâs currently in production. Upcoming VersionsWe know that at least two additional Corvette models are in the works. Further, there is a possibility we will see limited-production run variants, such as the Gran Sport, roll out. Expect coupe and convertible versions across the entire range. Because the Corvette is now an international model, GM has a broader audience to consider. We think its Bowling Green, Kentucky, manufacturing plant will be kept busy for years to come, producing a variety of models to meet those needs. Corvette ZR1The ultimate Corvette to date has always been the ZR1. But we believe it will eventually become the penultimate (look this up) model once an electric Corvette rolls out. As for the ZR1, it may take another year or two to bring this model to the market after the Z06 rolls out. This means a 2025 debut seems likely. Speculation has been rampant, but with the news release about the 5.5-liter flat-plank-crank V8 engine in the Z06, we think its future is clearer. Specifically, attaching a pair of turbos to the new engine for the ZR1 seems like the logical course of action. If so, power north of 800 horsepower appears likely. A few years back when Cadillac had its Blackwing engine, it looked like it would find its way to the Corvette. After all, the modern, 4.2-liter, double-overhead-cam engine with four valves per cylinder and two twin-scroll turbochargers snuggled in its V-shape was a fitting power beast for Cadillac and Corvette alike. Importantly, the Blackwing engine was also hand-built at the Kentucky plant by a small team of individuals. Road & Track said just six â so offering it in the Corvette was logical. Alas, the entire Blackwing project was canceled and the engine only found its way into 800 examples of the now-retired Cadillac CT6 before production ended. So, expect the flat-crank-plank engine with turbos will motivate the next ZR1. It is doubtful anyone will complain, but we can almost guarantee this modelâs price point will start well above $100,000. We believe something within the $125,000 to $150,000 range is possible. Electric CorvetteGM is in the process of electrifying everything. Although some hybrid variants of various Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac models are definitely part of that mix, we reason a full-electric Corvette will arrive by the end of this decade. Little is known about the gasless Corvette, although that has not stopped speculation, including that it would easily produce 1,000 horsepower. What we do expect is that GM will utilize the Corvetteâs shell and interior, but create an all-electric chassis to underpin this model. An electric C8 might ride on GMâs modular EV platform, which will undergird the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq utility vehicle and Cadillac Celestiq sedan. In any case, an electrified Corvette will eventually arrive. We think it will be produced in small numbers and cost at least $200,000. Corvette MusingsStill not in the picture is a C8 model with a manual transmission. Although never ruled out by the automaker, customer interest remains. This might be an opportunity for a Gran Sport model equipped with a 7-speed manual gearbox and the 8-speed DCT optional. We think there is a place for it somewhere among C8 models, but its not likely unless customers demand it. See Also â Mid-Engine Marvel: C8 Corvette Debuts Photos copyright GM Corp. We have been waiting for a follow-up to the 2020 Corvette Stingray. And after what seemed like an eternity (thanks, COVID-19!), the next chapter in Corvette prowess will soon arrive. Well, *soon* is a relative term, in this case in Summer 2022. In any event, today GM took the wraps off the new model, by showcasing it in a 25-minute film, followed by a panel discussion. And what did the film and discussion reveal? Thatâs easy: the most beautiful and powerful naturally aspirated engine in a Corvette yet (among other matters). Indeed, with 670 horsepower on tap, the new motor is easily the strongest non-boosted production V8 engine to date. How it accomplishes that feat is from a 5.5-liter flat-plank crank LT6 V8 that pushes a startling 8,600 RPM. There is much to dissect regarding the new model, including:Youâll pay at least $30,000 more. This is no run-of-the-mill Corvette, not that one exists anyway. Although we are still very much impressed by the $60,000 range of the standard Stingray, the ZO6 should easily top $30,000 and in most cases break the $100,000 level when it goes on sale next summer. Still, when comparing the Corvette to Europeâs finest, the case remains far lower. Anyway, it is doubtful pricing will be of concern to the type of customer Chevrolet expects to attract. Power to the people. The Stingray with its 6.2-liter pushrod cross-plane-crank V-8 gets it done with 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque at 6,450 RPM with the Z51 Performance Package. It moves this mid-engine masterpiece from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. The Z06 shaves two-tenths of a second off that number with 670 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque at 8,600 RPM. Power routes to the rear wheels utilizing an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission with a shorter final-drive ratio. What will follow is the ZR1 and we are told that the new V8 will gain a pair of turbochargers to move it. Staying planted.Larger brakes, larger rotors, and staggered wheels will accompany the ZO6. The Z06 will have a 20-inch front (275/30) and 21-inch (345/25) rear aluminum wheels wrapped within Pilot Sport 4S rubber standard tires. Carbon fiber wheels are optional. Notably, the Z06âs brakes measure 1.2 inches bigger than the Brembos found in the Stingrayâs Z51 package, and the front calipers on the Z06 have six pistons compared to four-piston brakes in the Stingray. Carbon-ceramic rotors are included in the Z06âs track-focused Z07 package. Other performance enhancements include magnetorheological dampers and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Both features are available in the Stingray, but these are included with the ZO6. Available Z07 performance package.Even a high-performance model such as the Z06 can benefit from some upgrades. Enter the available Z07 performance package. This track-ready package supplies 734 pounds of downforce at 186 mph, which is more than any Corvette to date. Included with the package are a carbon-fiber high rear wing and ground effects, special chassis tuning, particular Magnetic Ride Control calibration, and exclusive Michelin Cup 2 R ZP tires. Also, it comes with Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and available carbon fiber wheels. Bespoke colors and trim.We do not know the complete color and trim differences between the two Corvette models, but we do know for 2023 a few things about what will be available. Specifically, 12 available exterior colors and seven available wheel packages (including five finishes on the standard forged aluminum wheels and available carbon fiber wheels). Further, the 2023 Corvette features six available brake caliper colors. Inside, the details are no less arresting, including seven interior colors with the opportunity to expand it to thousands of combinations. Moreover, three seat choices, six seatbelt options, a pair of interior carbon-fiber trim packages, and a Stealth Aluminum trim option round out the list. ZO6 and Looking AheadFans have been waiting and now the second iteration of the C8 Corvette is within reach. After the ZR1âs arrival (perhaps by 2025), we may see a fully electric Corvette. In any case, every single eighth-generation Corvette offers incredible design, engineering, and performance. Arguably, the Z06 is a supercar that most likely will receive the global acclaim that it deserves. More ZO6 PhotosPhotos copyright GM Corp. The post Wow! 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06! appeared first on Auto Trends Magazine. Wow! 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06! published first on https://medium.com/@JacobsLowPriceAutoGlass via Tumblr Wow! 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06! It has been a long year of anticipation for fans of Fordâs newest pickup truck. No, we are not talking about the all-electric Lightning, which carries near-equal attention for enthusiasts. Rather, the current shiny object we are awaiting will debut first. And that is none other than the Ford Maverick compact pickup truck. We covered the Maverick here and here, so it is time to give it updated attention. Unfortunately, we were not part of the journalist circle invited to test drive the Maverick earlier this month. However, from the reports shared and additional information gleaned directly from Ford, we can conclude a few things. First, the Ford Maverick is every bit the stout truck that customers expect from the blue oval. Second, although small, the truck offers decent payload and towing capabilities. Third, a standard hybrid model delivers incomparable fuel efficiency. Consequently, the Maverick seems destined for market success. Highlights of the 2022 Ford MaverickHere is the latest information we have about the Maverick. If another site has more details, we have linked to it. Compact and AffordableThe all-new Ford Maverick rides on a platform it shares with the Ford Focus. The Focus is no longer sold in the U.S., but that model remains popular elsewhere. The Focusâ platform also underpins the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport, thus it has proven bones. Because the platform is widely shared, Ford can hold costs down significantly. Indeed, this 2022 Maverick retails from $19,995, plus a destination fee. That is far less than any other pickup truck model sold in the U.S., including the all-new Hyundai Santa Cruz. Hybrid, Then GasWe are not surprised that Ford offers a hybrid variant with the Maverick. What may surprise many (including us early on) is that the hybrid is the standard powertrain. Certainly, Ford could have reversed things, but they did not. Though the hybrid certainly should garner widespread appeal, Ford also has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine available. This engine makes a robust 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Power routes to the front or all four wheels utilizing an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is some sacrifice to fuel economy though. The turbo powertrain earns an EPA-estimated 23/30/26 city/highway/combined fuel economy. Yet, the highway numbers are quite close to the hybrid. Payload and TowingThe Ford Maverick has a maximum payload capacity of 1,500 pounds for the hybrid and turbo models. The payload includes interior weight (passengers) and cargo (truck bed). As for towing, both models pull up to 2,000 pounds. But with the special tow package available with the turbo, the limit doubles to 4,000 pounds. That latter number is amazing for a small pickup truck and may make a strong difference for some shoppers who might otherwise consider a midsize Ford Ranger pickup truck. Flexible BedWe mentioned earlier the flexible 4.5-footbed for the Maverick. Though shorter than most other truck beds, it is what customers can do with it that makes a difference. Indeed, a FLEXBED system includes a multi-position tailgate, slots to subdivide the bed, and multiple anchor points. Ford will sell you the required upgrades, but the automaker is doing something novel as well. Specifically, the company says customers can head to their local home improvement store to make their solutions. Further, Ford has do-it-yourself videos to support this. Clearly, Ford is looking to secure the lower end of the market with a vehicle that is affordable, attainable, and customizable. Creature FeaturesWith room for five, but ideal for four, the 2022 Maverick can move people and their stuff in comfort. The car-like interior and ride are noticeable features of this model. The list of equipment includes standard keyless entry. Push-button start, remote start, ambient interior lighting, a power locking tailgate, and a moonroof are also included. In some cases, a few simple tools will help you get the job done. Within minutes, you can add your personal touch to your vehicle. Letâs take a look at five examples you can do right now. Tip No. 1: Private number platesPrivate number (vanity) plates are a good low-key way of making your car stand out. They can also be surprisingly cheap depending on what you want them to say. For example, if you have a really common car like a Nissan Juke, fitting your own private number plates will not only make a statement, but it will also help to ensure you do not keep trying to get into the wrong car when there are a few in the parking lot! Tip No. 2: Car wrapsCar wrapping is really popular right now, which is hardly surprising because it is one of the best ways to completely transform the look of your car and ensure that it stands out. Of course, it is not the cheapest option there is, but it is definitely cheaper than having a full respray, which would be your other option if you want to change the color and style of your carâs exterior, It is also easier to add patterns and images to your car when using car wraps than it is to have them painted on. Tip No. 3: Seat coversSeat covers, steering wheels, and carpets are all low-cost options for transforming your vehicleâs interior. You can buy them ready-made in pretty much any color and style you can think of. Furthermore, if you have extra money to spend, you can also have them custom-made so that they will fit like a glove and be completely unique to you. If you have the sewing skills, you could even try making your own. The customization options are only limited by your time and talent. Tip No. 4: LED LightingAnother thing you can do to transform your carâs interior, which will look really cool and unique, is to install LED lighting. You can get LED car lighting in a vast range of colors and styles from neon green and pink to more muted white and blue hues. When installed, LED lights make your vehicle look more modern and more high-end than it might be. Moreover, they are fairly easy to install, so they are something you should definitely consider. Tip No. 5: Custom hood ornamentsDid you know you can actually buy custom hood (bonnet) ornaments? You may not have a Jag or a Rolls Royce, but that does not mean you cannot adorn your bonnet with your very own miniature sculpture that says something about you. For example, if you are a pigskin or soccer fan, you could have your own football or soccer ornament made. Or, if you are an animal lover, you could adorn your hood with a tiny Scottish or Boston terrier â the possibilities are only limited by your budget and imagination. Simple Ways: Getting it DoneA unique car is more fun and easier to find, so what are you waiting for? It is time to transform your vehicle and give it a unique personality right now. Simple Ways to Make Your Car Stand Out published first on https://medium.com/@JacobsLowPriceAutoGlass via Tumblr Simple Ways to Make Your Car Stand Out There are many questions to ask yourself before you modify your car. Take the time to think about what you want in a car and what youâre willing to do to get it. Here are seven questions that will help you avoid regret later on. 7 Car Modifications1. How much is it going to cost? You should know what youâre looking to spend before you modify your car. Looking at your expenses and how much it will cost to keep your vehicle up and running can help you determine whether itâs worth the cost in the long run. If youâre only modifying the basic features of your car, you can keep it up and running with essential maintenance. If youâre looking to go more extreme than that, you may need to replace parts now and then. 2. How much do you want my car to differ from before? You should know why you want to modify your car before deciding on what to purchase. Do you want to boost it because itâs fun and exciting? Do you want to improve your commute because you feel like you could get somewhere faster and easier? Modifying your car for performance or appearance can come with many different costs and risks depending on the parts you want to add to your vehicle. 3. What are the risks? What are the risks of modifying your car? If youâre not sure what youâre getting into, you should think about what the possible consequences could be. Making changes to your vehicle could mean spending a lot of money on parts, but it also may mean having to buy another car altogether if things go wrong. Figure out what will happen to your vehicle if something goes wrong before you start modifying it. 4. Will you be able to fix it if something goes wrong? It would help if you considered fixing any problems that arise while your car is being modified. Will it be easy or difficult? If you canât find the right parts, figure out how to get them or buy new ones. If you canât find help to fix it, the car may end up costing more than youâre willing to spend. You should think about whether you need professional help or if you can do it yourself. You can save a lot of money by starting with something simple on your own, but you may eventually need to have someone else do the work for you, so they donât have to teach you how to do it. 5. What do you want my car to do?What is your goal for your car? Are you only interested in modifying the engine and exterior of it? Or do you want new brakes and upgraded alloy wheels? Knowing your goal will help you determine what kind of parts to buy. If you only want to purchase parts compatible with your model, it can be easier to go this route, but if youâre looking to have a lot of modifications done at once, this might not be an option for you. 6. How will it affect your Insurance Premium?Thereâs a reason why so many people get their car modified nowadays. It looks good and is one of the most sought-after customizations in the world. However, before you modify your vehicle and add lights or flashy designs, check with your insurance company to ensure that the changes will not increase your premium. It is especially true if you live in a state where you must buy state-approved auto insurance. 7. How will it affect the trade-in value? You should also look at the trade-in value of your car if you plan to sell it after you modify it. Do not let the idea of having better parts for your vehicle distract from what is essential: whether or not it is worth selling. Changing your vehicle parts may not be worth the risk if it only increases the value of your car by a little, which might make it difficult to sell later on down the line. ConclusionModifying your car is a decision that you should take seriously. There are plenty of things to consider before starting the modifications that will help you decide if itâs worth it for what your car can do or not. Check car fluids regularly, change your oil, have issues fixed promptly, buy good parts, have them serviced regularly. These are all things to consider when making modification adjustments. Whatever decision you make will affect the future of your car. If you take all these aspects into account, you can avoid regret later on. It is an impressive bit of civil engineering, quite acclaimed for how thrilling and downright gorgeous it is. In the late 2000s, the people at âTop Gearâ went on a road trip to try to understand all the fuss about the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan. They were impressed, to say the least. Indeed, Jeremy Clarkson, one of the presenters, claimed that the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan is superior and more thrilling than the quite renowned Stelvio Pass. Bold claims and such bold claims require a bit of proof. (1) Construction of a Carpathian RoadwayCrossing over the tallest mountains in Romania, the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan was built between 1970 and 1974 and spanning 56.5 miles. There were plenty of roads that crossed over the Carpathian Mountains, however, dictator CeauÈescu considered that they could easily be blocked due to weather conditions and landslides. Therefore, he ordered the emergency development of the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan, built to link the military encampment found in Sibiu to the one in PiteÈti. On top of this, there were definite plans to develop the Bâlea Lake as a tourist attraction, to establish wood harvesting in the FÄgÄraÈ Mountainâs forests, and making use of the available alpine grassland. Reaching heights of 6,700 feet, the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan is not even the road situated at the highest altitude in Romania. The Transalpina has that distinction as it slightly surpasses 7,000 feet. Another road, the Transbucegi, has its highest point at 6,315 feet. Considering this, the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan is the second tallest road in Romania, but by far the most spectacular. The road also features the longest tunnel open for road use in Romania, with a length of 2,900 feet along with a 3-foot-wide sidewalk, for some reason. However, a road like this has proven to be costly, and not just from a material point of view. (2) The Human CostTo construct such a spectacular road, 830 small bridges and 27 viaducts were built. Tens of millions of tons of rock were moved by using over 6,500 tons of dynamite. Roadwork was carried out throughout the year, even if you could safely work there for just four or five months annually. This led to an official death toll of 40 people, due to exhaustion, accidents, or even hypothermia. However, a more recent interview where a site worker, now retired, talks about his experience working on the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan shows a different story. He claims that âonly at the reservoir 400 boys or so diedâ. The blueprints were dodgy, with the initial plans calling for making the road a single lane with pull-off areas so people could pass, and that was on a completely different route. The idea was not practical, and a longer route was picked, all the while making the road adhere to the then-current standards: a two-lane road with wider turns and crests. People endured harsh conditions while building the road, working in 8-hour shifts through rain, snow, avalanches, rock falls, and the harshest winds around. (3) (4) The Drive of Your LifeDriving on the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan is exhilarating and dangerous. Not all the turns are protected by railings, and there are not many sections that have them. Significant driving mistakes can lead to your downfall, figuratively and literally. There have been plenty of cases where people lost their lives since they were not careful, or they decided to push their car too much when they truly should not have. Therefore, the government decided to keep the road open only from June 30 to November 1 to avoid potential snowfalls and ice formations. If you want to visit Bâlea Lake, there is a cable car which climbs there, so it is not completely isolated. The road is also closed at night. There are not many road signs around, and the risk of being blinded by someoneâs headlights is significant. As such, they decided to keep the road closed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Unique Twists and TurnsDespite these challenges, the TransfÄgÄrÄÈan is nothing but a matter of beauty. The turns are laid out in such a way that they seem transposed from renowned racetracks. There is not a particular section of the road that seems like a repeating section. The hairpins are carefully laid out and made with different radii, making each turn seem novel and inspiring. While descending on the best asphalt Romania has probably ever seen, you are accompanied by waterfalls, rock formations, small bridges, rivers of different sizes, and the breathtaking FÄgÄraÈ Depression. You take this all in while youâre gripping the wheel tightly, knowing that a mistake can lead to your untimely demise. You will exit out of turns accelerating and wanting to push your car to its limits while entertaining second thoughts and reaching the more sensible conclusion of slowing down. Such a thought pattern will repeat itself time and again. Until you reach the roadâs end, safe and sound, while still feeling that you could have driven faster and pushed harder. The Prize of RomaniaYou will be in awe of what a view you just experienced, wondering if you ever saw so many pines in your life but questioning why there are not more. In the end, you will meet again the same rough roads, watermelon-sized potholes, horse-drawn carriages filled with lettuce, and drivers who cannot signal when entering a roundabout. In the end, you are left pondering how such a road exists, in Romania of all the places. Why this discrepancy is possible also comes to your mind. But what remains is this enormous desire to climb back up, slowly and surely descend, just like a small kid with a sled who found the perfect snowy hill. References(1) Top Gear.
